WORLD CANCER DAY: MEDICAID CANCER FOUNDATION SUPPORTS CANCER PATIENTS IN KEBBI

World cancer day is a UICC led event celebrated across the world on 4th February, as a day to harmonize commitments and efforts, big and small geared towards improving cancer control. This year as it has done for the past 10 years, Medicaid Cancer Foundation is doing the most to meet these objectives.

Thus, on World Cancer Day 2021, themed: IamAndIWill, Medicaid Cancer Foundation organized a week long activities part of which included distributing 20 Orange Box of support to cancer patients.

The 20 Orange boxes have been distributed across 4 cities by high level individuals and celebrities. In Kebbi state on Thursday the 4th of February, 2 patients were visited in their homes by a team led by the commissioner of Health Hon Jafar Muhammad, some staff from the ministry and members of Medicaid Cancer Foundation.

Each box contains the sum of N200,000 and some comfort items for chemotherapy. The patients were also given a bag of rice and oil.

The Commissioner explained that it is due to the cordial relationship the ministry shares with Medicaid Cancer Foundation that they have all came out to support the humanitarian initiative. He announced the Ministry was also marking the day with awareness campaigns whilst observing covid protocols.

Both patients expressed their heartfelt gratitude as they narrated the story of their struggle and the support they continue to receive from MCF.

Part of the activities that marked the day in Birnin Kebbi was a roadshow to raise awareness of prostate cancer. A team from the state Ministry Of Health and MCF targeted some select congregational points to deliver health talks and hand out leaflets with health education concerning prostate cancer.

Earlier, the foundation had supported the state Ministry of health with logistics to provide free prostate screening for more than 500 men aged 40 years and above. The screening which was in partnership with Johnson&Johnson will be followed by free treatment.
