A group of women in Lagos State has warned those bent on tarnishing the reputation of Mrs. Kemi Nelson to desist from the act.

The group under the aegis of Lagos Legacy Women Front (LLWF) fingered some interested parties in the Ministry of Labour and Employment of being behind series of sponsored publications to malign Mrs. Nelson, who is the Executive Director of Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).

A statement by LLWF’s convener, Mrs. Omotola Glover, reads:

“Our attention has been drawn to malicious, but sponsored publications by some bloggers and online publishers, which were done with the sole intention to malign, injure and tarnish the hard-earned reputation of Mrs. Kemi Nelson.

“Those who want our matron, Mrs. Nelson, out of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) at all cost, no doubt, are behind the wicked publications mostly carried by faceless bloggers who never understand the tenets of responsible journalism.

“We found every allegation listed in the spiteful publications as not only mischievous and meaningless, they are as laughable as the intention of those sponsoring them.

“For avoidance of doubt, Mrs. Kemi Nelson has held various positions of trust in Lagos State and her political party before her latest appointment by the Federal Government as Executive Director for Operations at the NSITF. It is pertinent to state that she has never been found wanting in all offices she held, both at the State level and national front.

“Even those sponsoring media attacks on her know that Mrs. Kemi Nelson has maintained unblemished track record throughout her public service assignment. We, then, wonder how a faceless personality would engage lazy bloggers and amorphous online publishers to launch malicious attack to stain her personality.

“We urge these bloggers and publishers to desist from issuing further malicious stories to taint Mrs. Kemi Nelson. We will be pushed to take legal channel to seek redress should any online publication further writes unfounded allegations against our matron.

“The House of Representatives has done the right thing by setting up an independent panel to conduct public hearing to assess and inquire into the activities of the Bayo Somefun-led management of the NSITF; those who are bent on embarking on media trial should not push their mischievously subjective write-ups to disturb the task of the House panel.

“We are also aware of an attempt by some interested parties in the Ministry of Labour and Employment to set up a kangaroo panel with the intention to indict our matron by hook or by crook. This attempt shall be repelled to our last energy and strength.

“We only throw our confidence behind an independent panel of the House of Representatives.

“Let the media trial of our matron stop.”
