KEBBI TO INTRODUCE LEGISLATION FOR THE PROTECTION OF THE CHILD

Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State has said that the state would soon introduce a legislation in the State House of Assembly for the protection and rights of the child.

The Governor said the new legislation will make it mandatory for every child in the state to have a legal custodian who will be responsible and accountable for the child whether he may be a father, a relative or a quranic teacher who will accept the child under his care.

He said ” The issue is it will put responsibility on us all and even if the child is orphan, there is orphanages, there is no problem being an orphan, we have orphanages, village heads or volunteers who can take them “.

 

Bagudu emphasized that every child in Kebbi must be accounted for and vowed to continue to put pressure on the system until progress was made.

Senator Atiku Bagudu made the statement in Birnin Kebbi this Sunday 1/3/2020 at the Maiden edition of the Law Week organised by the National Union of Kebbi State Law Students, with theme: Voice of the law.

He said the new law when introduced, will give protection to the child , enable him/ her have education as part of the child’s right.

Bagudu affirmed resolve to implementing the policy of incumbent administration of integrating the almajiri education into the formal school system to enabled products of such schools to become useful members of the society.

He said his administration has sought for the support and cooperation of academicians indigines of the state from universities especially Usmanu Danfodio University Sokoto to come and serve as part time chairmen of local Government Education Authorities so that they could contribute to the ongoing effort of the state government in reforming the educational sector and bring back the out of school children to classes.

On the issue of fight against corruption, he endorsed the collective and proactive approach in the fight against corruption adopted by the Federal Government as the best option towards ensuring corrupt- free society.

The governor described President Muhammadu Buhari as a person of integrity and incorruptible leader who has the interest of the nation at heart in the anti-corruption campaign.

He equally commended the Minister for Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), for strengthening the efficacy to ridding Nigeria of Social malaise including corruption, bribery and money laundering .
He called on the law students in the state and country at large to be active stakeholders in the prevention of corrupt practices, while assuring the Kebbi law students that he has directed the payment of allowances to law Students of Kebbi State origin.

He charged the law students to respect time, remain time conscious in attending any function and always desist from late coming ” A law student will always benefit if he attends function in time ” he advised.

Senator Atiku Bagudu was full of praise to retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Usman Muhammad who has consistently spoke against present system of almajiri education, stressing the need for reform.

Justice Usman Muhammad warned that urgent and effective approach was most desirable in finding solution to the problem of almajiris graduating to social miscreants without neither Qur’anic or Western knowledge.

He requested the Kebbi State Government to hasten the integration of Qur’anic Schools into the formal education system of the country.

The Minister for Justice and Attorney-General, Abubakar Malami (SAN) vowed that the present administration has been vigorously pursuing the fight against corruption and ensuring that corrupt people were exposed and punished .

The Minister announced that the Federal Government has created central data base for recovered stolen assets under his office.

He appealed to all to support President Buhari ‘s crusade against corruption in the country saying ‘ If you do not kill corruption, corruption will kill you “, he warned.
