Kebbi Government Approves New Measures To Cushion the Effects of Covid-19 in the State

Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi state has graciously approved measures to cushion the effect of Covid-19 on individual tax payers and businesses in the state.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Abubakar Mu’azu Dakingari quotes Suleiman Sani Augie of the office of the Secretary to State Government from a circular from Kebbi State Board of Internal Revenue signed by its Chairman, as saying, this is sequel to the novel Corona virus Covid-19 which has affected economic activities in the state, leading to a very serious short fall in revenue generation generally.

All individual tax payers including self-employed persons are hereby given an extension of up to 30% July 2020 to file their tax returns.

Furthermore, any liability arising from interest or penalty on the extended compliance due to date, of filling the tax returns is hereby wavered.

The state annual development levy imposed by law on every taxable individual person in the state is hereby wavered 100% for the current assessment year 2020.

The state government also suspends the implementation of all new rates, fines, levies, and fees under the state revenue administration law currently under amendment.

The State Board of Internal Revenue shall continue to operate on the old rates, levies, fines and fees for the period of suspension of any new law.

The state hereby waves 50% off on all assigning interest and penalties on tax liabilities on cooperative bodies in the state.

The state also offers a consensus of 30% off on all arrears of tax liability of one year and over for individuals under personal income tax assessment.

Accordingly, the State Board of Internal Revenue will implement the above fully, and keep communication lines open and in readiness to receive responses from tax payers both individual and cooperate bodies.

The board’s electronic platforms are ready to receive tax returns and enquiry responses from tax payers.
