Kebbi State Governor and Chairman Progressives Governors’Forum , Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has appreciated the laudable gesture of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA for donating relief items to internally displaced persons, IDPs in Kebbi State.
Bagudu was represented by Secretary to the State Government, Babale Umar Yauri at a the brief presentation ceremony at the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA office in Birnin Kebbi.
The Kebbi governor appreciated NIMASA for the invaluable gesture of donating the relief items to flood victims, victims of boat mishaps as well as others affected by natural calamities in the state.
” The governor thanked NIMASA for remembering us, for taking the Bull by the Horns to donate the items to the people affected by flood, boat mishaps and those internally displaced due to security challeges and natural calamities.
” You have carefully selected items that are going to be valuable to people affected by flood, boat mishaps and other natural calamities.
‘ I thank you once again on behalf of Government and good people of Kebbi State for coming to the aid of IDPs in Kebbi State.
The governor assured NIMASA for judicious presentation of the items to the affected victims and urged other organizations to emulate the laudable effort of NIMASA for bringing succour to the IDPs in Kebbi State .
Earlier, the Director – General of the agency, Dr Bashir Jamoh, while distributing the materials in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday, said that the aim was to ameliorate the suffering faced by the victims in the state .
The materials comprised of 12 sewing machines, 12 grinding machines, 12 welding machines, 50 number of hair clippers and 12 vulcanising machines.
Others were, 12 generators, two tricycles, four motorcycles and 12 water pumping machines .
Jamoh, represented by the Deputy Director of the Agency, Port Harcourt Office, Murad Ahmed, said that the gesture was also to complement the already magnanimous efforts of the state government.
” The palliative situations aimed at ameliorating the sufferings of people affected by the flood and boat mishap as well as persons displaced internally for one reason or the other.
“We have always thought that it should be part of our corporate responsibilities to look after our brothers.
” It has not been like this before but we have insisted that in as much as our people far away the seas, we shall have an impact upon their lives and they should understand that they also have brothers elsewhere.” he averred.
The Director General called on the victims to judiciously utilise the materials for the purpose they were meant.
