In furtherance of her effort to improve primary healthcare indices through encouraging antenatal care attendance, The First Lady of kebbi state, HE Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu visited Yauri Wednesday 11/11/2020 where she distributed 1000 units of pampers diapers, 1000 units of safe birth kits as well as other palliatives in the form of food items, insecticide treaded-mosquito nets and blankets to 200 indigent women.
On arrival in Yauri, Dr Bagudu and her entourage made the first stop at Government Girls Secondary School Yauri to deliver the final dose of the HPV vaccine to 35 girls missed during the covid lockdown and present certificates to all the rest. It will be recalled that the Medicaid Cancer Foundation had carried out an HPV vaccination exercise for 100 girls. The exercise was sponsored by Jaiz Foundation as an effort to prevent and decrease the prevalence of cervical cancer among school aged girls.
Thereafter, Her Excellency Dr Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu proceeded to the primary healthcare Yauri where she distributed 1000 units of safe birth kits and 1000 units of pampers diapers donated by Procter and Gamble as an incentive to encourage antenatal care attendance to reduce maternal birth mortality and child mortality rate in the state.
Finally, at the local government secretariat, Dr Bagudu distributed palliatives which include food items, insecticide-treated mosquito nets and blankets to 300 women
The first lady had earlier paid homage to the Emir of Yauri Dr Muhammad Zayyanu where he commended her efforts and prayed Allah to assist her in achieving her well meaning goal for the good people of kebbi state.
Similarly, the Chairman of Yauri local government Alh Bala Gagga, wife of the SSG Hajiya Huraira Babale Umar, The Principal, Dr Suwaiba Salihu, Special Adviser on women Development Hon Zahrau Wali and others expressed profound gratitude to the first lady for presenting the good people of Yauri with the opportunity to host the flagship program of the HPV vaccination and for her humanitarian effort in assisting the needy women.
Dr Bagudu commended the Medicaid Cancer Foundation, the sponsors as well as the host community in Yauri for the exercise. She disclosed that Nigeria will soon commence nationwide HPV vaccination for cervical cancer prevention and Kebbi state will be one of the first to benefit.
To wave support for the initiative, the motorcade of the first lady and her entourage were greeted by the delegations of Koko Besse and Shanga local governments on the way to Yauri. The entourage consisted of Special Adviser to the Governor on women and social development Hajiya Zahrau Wali, the Executive Secretary Kebbi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency Dr Abubakar Kaoje, Hajiya Zahrau Gbashah, Gender advocate Fatima Ishiaku, female councilors and a host of other high ranking individuals.
