Kebbi State has participated in the year’s celebration of the Day of the African child which was conducted virtually as a result of the pandemic. The webinar examined the elements of a child-friendly justice system and the application of the four principles of children’s right as a tool for realizing access to a child-friendly justice system in Nigeria.

Representing the state, a lineup of young talented children dressed in colourful cultural attires, graced the occasion by rendering the national anthem to open and also with a mind-blowing cultural dance performance.

The children were in the company of the special advisor to the governor on women and social development, Hon Zahrau Wali as well as the permanent secretary ministry for women affairs and social development, Haj Aishatu Muhammad Maikurata.

In an address via the virtual conference, the Hon Minister for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Pauline Tallen said that the day is set aside to brainstorm on solutions to the challenges facing the full realization of rights of children. She explained that this year’s celebration is with the theme: Access to a child-friendly justice system in Nigeria.
The minister congratulated children of Africa on the celebration and called on all the states that are yet to domesticate the Child’s Right Act, to key in and see to it that all children are well protected.

The highlight of the 4 hour long conference was a panel discussion on GBV with experts from judiciary, police, civil society, religious and government bodies.
