The Kebbi State Government has directed the immediate closure of all public and private schools in the state following the Corona Virus pendamic in the country and across the globe.
While announcing this on Saturday, (21/3/2020) the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary School Education Alhaji Muhammadu Magawata Aliero said the decision to close all schools in the states was taken by governors during their meeting in Abuja and Kaduna over Corona Virus pandemic which has spread to over 120 countries of the world.
He said governors of the Northwest region have also met in Kaduna where the decision to close down schools in the region was taken.
” You are all aware of the pendamic plague of Corona Virus or Covid 19 which has become a global issue. It started in China and now spreading to over 120 countries of the world”
“In order to safeguard the lives of students and teachers, a decision was taken that all schools in the region be closed down” , he said.
The commissioner said all the stakeholders on education in Kebbi comprising heads of educational parastatals, Nigerian Union of Teachers, principals, education Secretaries and private schools proprietors have resolved to close all schools with effect from Saturday 21/3/2020.
He said all primary and secondary Schools were closed from Saturday while the boarding schools will be closed by Monday 23/3/2020.
He explained that as soon the situation improves, date for resumption would be announced through the media and examination will be conducted a week after resumption.
The commissioner advised parents to take advantage of the closure of the schools to monitor their wards and ensure they study their books at home.
The press briefing was attended by Directors of the ministry, education secretaries, ANCOPPS, NUT, and proprietors of private Schools in the state.
