Kebbi State Governor,Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Thursday, in Birnin Kebbi, commended the members of the Nigerian Army, for their giant strides in tacking challenges of insecurity across Nigeria.
The Governor has also vowed to sustain his tempo of moral and financial support to them and other security agencies.
This, Bagudu, noted, was to bolster their morale, to make them more committed to diligently discharging their constitutional duties of providing security to lives and property of all law abiding citizens.
This is also to encourage them to do their possible best, to defend the territorial integrity of Nigeria.
The Kebbi State Governor spoke when the members of the Senate Committee on Army, led by the Chairman, Senator Muhammdu Ali Ndume, paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Birnin Kebbi.
Bagudu also extolled the relentless sacrifices of the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies in tackling various forms of insecurity in the country, in spite of some formidable odds.
He enumerated these daunting security challenges to include banditry, kidnapping, insurgency, armed roberry and other related criminalities .
He said : ” This visit cannot therefore come at a better time than now sequel to the recent events in the country that had affected the morale of the same agencies.
” While appreciating these laudable efforts, I must hasten to promise more support to all them, to enable them perform better.”
Speaking earlier, the Chairman Senate Committee on Nigerian Army, Senator Ali Ndume, said their visit to Kebbi State was a three -fold mission which include paying a courtesy visit to the Governor, who has been a strong pillar to the Armed Forces and other security agencies .
In the same vein, Ndume said that, the visit was for the conduct of oversight functions on the various formations of the Nigerian Army, especially to assess the achievements, strengths and weaknesses of the ongoing Operation, Zaman Lafiya.
He stated that, the operation was being conducted by the Nigerian Army to check banditry in the north west.
The committee chairman also said the visit was a fact finding mission to assess the effects of banditry in the area as well as afford opportunity for the committee to interact with governor and the Army to see how the security situation can be handled before it gets out of hand.
Ndume lauded the sustained proactive measures being taken by Bagudu, as well as the support to the operations of the Armed Forces.
He expressed delight that, Kebbi State was the least in the country,in terms of security challenges, adding that, the Army was involved in various operations in thirty three states of the country.
