The wife of Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu says women are important segment of the society that immensely contribute to nation building.
Dr. Bagudu who is also the founder of Medicaid Cancer Foundation reaffirmed her commitment to championing the course of women development and emancipation because of their dedication to nation building.
Mrs Bagudu stated this on Monday 9/3/2020 in her address at the celebration of this year’s International Women’s Day with the theme ‘ I am Generation Equity : Realising Women Right ‘. organised by Kebbi State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in partnership with other partners and donor agencies.
The wife of the governor who was represented at the occasion by Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Development,Hajiya Zara’u Abubakar Walin Kalgo said the international women’s day is celebrated to review the achievements and contribution of women to nation building as well as address the challenges facing women and children worldwide.
Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu acknowledged the gender inclusiveness of Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu led administration while calling for the promulgation of gender equality and protection of women and children rights.
She advocated for a balanced right in education, health, policy making and economic aspects of human life and commended the present administration for increasing women participation in decision making of the state.
According to her, the state governor approved one hundred million naira for the state multi purpose cooperative center, where women and youths are trained on various trades as well as ‘ Bagudu Gatan Kowa Skill Acquisition Centers across the state.
Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu spoke eloborately on the activities of Medicaid Cancer Foundation towards creating awareness and diagnosis as well as access to treatment of cancer for in addition to free vaccination against breast cancer to students of Government Girls Science Secondary School Yelwa, Yauri in collaboration with Jaiz Foundation, late last month.
The wife of the governor also spoke in her sponsorship of female student to read Nursing , sponsorship of female student to read Nursing, Midwifery and other medical courses to improve the manpower needs of the state .
She said over 5 million naira was expended at the graduation of three hundred and one students of An- Nur Islamic and entrepreneurship center at Argungu in cash and materials.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Aisha Muhammed Maikurata said the International Women ‘s Day is set aside to also draw attention of the world to the plight of women as well as create awareness on their challenges and find solution to the problems.
The Permanent Secretary said the ministry is committed to position the girl child to take their proper place and pledged to campaign against discrimination against women.
She commended the wife of the governor for her commitment to women development and her continued fight for their right.
Highlights of the program included paper presentation, Goodwill messages from stakeholders and awareness rally across the state on the importance of the day and contribution of women to national development.
