The Kebbi State Executive Council chaired by Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has held it’s weekly council meeting on Wednesday 19/2/2020 at the Council Chamber , Government House in Birnin Kebbi.
Three commissioners in turn briefed the press on the outcome and resolutions reached at the meeting.
The Commissioner of Information and Culture, Alhaji Mamuda Warrah said three major issues were discussed at the council meeting.
He said the council was concerned by the threat of expected rainfall in few months to come and Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has directed the Ministry of Works to quickly appraise roads and culverts threatened by the coming rains and erosion.
He has also directed members of the executive council to go back and look at their ministry’s structures so that effective measures could be taken to address them before the raining season sets in.
Other issues according to the Commissioner discussed were the preparations for the upcoming Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival slated for March this year and smooth take off of the Federal University of Agriculture in Zuru approved by President Muhammad Buhari.
On his part, the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Abubakar Chika Ladan said adequate preparations were on going to ensure successful hosting of the Argungu international Fishing and Cultural Festival.
He said already the main committee headed by the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Samaila Yombe Dabai and that of the Local Organizing Committee set up by Argungu Emirate has metamorphosed into one giving rise to 20 subcommittees for other events of the festival.
He said rehabilitation of structures including repairs of the main Festival Village ‘ Matan Fada’, venue of the ‘ Kabanci ‘ display, accommodation at the fishing village and the Grand Fishing Hotel as well as access roads within Argungu especially roads leading to the event site were ongoing to meet the deadline.
He said renovation work including construction of access roads was being financed by the State Government at the cost of N650 million naira.
He said the Chairman of the main organizing committee, Deputy Governor, Alhaji Samaila Yombe Dabai has travelled to Abuja to make the necessary contacts with relevant stakeholders and brief them on the preparations so far made.
Ladan explained that a World Press Conference would soon be held in Abuja while a delegation from the state would brief the Minister of Information and Culture on the events as well as formal invitation to Mr. President , Muhammadu Buhari who will be the Special Guest of Honor at the event .
The Commissioner of Highier Education, Professor Muktar Umar Bunza while briefing newsmen also said the executive council deliberated on the successful take off of the recently approved Federal University of Agriculture in Zuru.
He said Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu was committed to the early and smooth commencement of academic activities at the University which consequently has approved the use of the former College of Agriculture Zuru for the take off of the University.
He equally opined that the governor had ordered that in the course of the transition no staff and student was affected or suffer over the handing over.
Professor Bunza remarked that the former College of Agriculture, Zuru had 439 academic and non academic staff while students population stood at 700 .
The professor said a Special Unit has been established in the University making it possible for all current students to graduate.
