The Federal Government’s N-Power Tech under the Social Investment Programme, SIP has said that it will train 4,000 more beneficiaries as 6,000 participants acquire hardware technology skills across the six geo-political zones of the country. This was revealed during the training of beneficiaries in the South West geo-political zone.
The Federal Government designed the N-Power Initiative (NPI) to drastically reduce youth unemployment. The focus is to provide young graduates and non-graduates with the skills, tools and opportunities to enable them advance from unskilled labour to employment, entrepreneurship and innovation.
The first phase of NPI targets the country’s critical needs in agriculture, creative, construction and artisanal services, education and technology industries.
Speaking at the Foursquare Camp in Ajebo, Ogun State where the last batch of 1,000 beneficiaries from the South West Geo Political Zone where being trained, the coordinator of the Scheme, Mr. Tunde Animashaun, noted that, under the N-Power Tech training scheme, participant’s learn how to service and manufacture tech hardware like mobile phones, tablets, computers and other tech hardware.
“The Programme runs for twelve (12) months which includes three (3) months training and nine (9) months internship before they are discharged. After the three (3) months training, they are equipped with a set of tool box, which includes, a soldering iron, precision screw set, set of pliers, set of screwdrivers, current meter, soldering wick and wire, cutter, hand lens magnifier amongst other sundry tools.
“In addition to this, the volunteers are also paid a monthly stipends of N10,000 throughout their stay in camp for training and subsequently for their 9 month internship in various technology firms and start-ups across the Nigeria.
“It is our hope that with the rise of several tech startup firms and use of mobile technology, our beneficiaries will fill in the corresponding rising need for tech support services”, Mr. Animashuan noted.
Also speaking, a female beneficiary, Bukola Adeyemi thanked the federal government for the opportunity availed her to horn her tech skill. “Before now, I barely know how to unscrew a phone device or laptop, but with my training at the camp, I’m certain I will be able to fix faulty devices going forward. There is still a lot for me to learn, but I believe I will learn more during the internship phase.”

“I didn’t know anybody. I saw the opportunity online, applied and I was selected. I had nothing doing before, but with this, I know I can never by poor or broke again. The skills I have acquired will help me both financially and psychologically. Now, I have a sense of purpose and don’t wander around when I wake up in the mornings.”
