400 UNDERPRIVILEGED GIRLS IN 4 LGA BENEFIT FROM SKILLS AQUISITION AND HEALTH WORKSHOP ORGANIZED BY KEBBI STATE MULTIPOSE BUSINESS COOPERATIVE UNION

The KSMC has kicked off a SKILLSUP training program in Jega town on 3rd September 2020 for 100 underprivileged girls to give them purpose in life off the streets. The girls will be taught how to make liquid soaps and air freshness and provided with a start up kit. In addition, personal menstrual hygiene was taught.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, chairperson of the cooperative, Hajiya Hajara Yusuf said the 2 day workshop is the first of 4 planned in Jega, Shanga, Bagudo and Birnin Kebbi. The girls were meticulously selected on grounds of need by local civil societies.

She explained that aside from its primary empowerment mandate, the cooperative in 2019 trained 1000 women in Animal husbandry, Makeup and Catering. Similarly 200 youths received a 2 weeks ICT training in each of the four Emirates of the state where a fully equipped computer cafe was set up and handed to them.

Recently, 200 women and youth were also trained on production of fabric face masks and hand sanitizers as a preventive measure of Covid 19.

Hajiya Hajara noted that the cooperative will continue such workshops and welcomes pato train women and youth in different skills in the state to make them self reliant.

The group sought blessings of Emir of Jega HRH Alhaji Arzika Bawa Jega who commended the program and were also inspected by Chairman Jega LGA Barrister Shehu Marshall who promised to continue the step down. Both dignitaries commended the wife of the Governor, H.E. Dr Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu and the KSMC for initiating the program.

The skills training was carried out by UmmyZarah’s, a Kebbi based young entrepreneur whilst Haj Atune Danga, President of NCWS (Kebbi State chapter) handled COVID19 and Menstrual hygiene component. The workshop kicked off with a short business skills talk from Haj Sahura Sani and finally, each girl went away delightedly with a start up kit to make the items, always sanitary towels (donated by Procter and Gamble), and clothing material as incentive.
